FAQ About Social Security Disability Hearings, Pt. 3

Disability applicants are often confused about what to do before their Social Security disability hearings. Here are some common questions applicants for disability benefits pose to their attorneys; if you have other questions regarding your own case, contact an Ocala disability attorney.

Do I need to call my Ocala disability attorney every time I see a doctor?

No, but do keep a written record of the dates of all of your medical treatment before your hearing. You don’t need to call your disability attorney about routine medical care. Once you are assigned a hearing date, your disability attorney will send you a letter that includes a form for you to fill in with information about all medical care you have received since your initial consultation with your attorney. Be sure to put down the names and addresses of all doctors and facilities you have seen (it may be helpful to get business cards for each of them and send them to your lawyer when he or she asks for an update).

When do I need to call my Ocala disability attorney?

Generally, there will not be much need for you to call your lawyer before he or she notifies you of your hearing date. However, if any of the following things happen, it is a good idea to notify your attorney:

  • You are hospitalized.
  • You receive a new diagnosis from a doctor.
  • Your condition dramatically changes.
  • You return to work.
  • You are considering returning to work, even part-time.
  • You change your contact information, telephone number or address.
  • You receive a letter from the Social Security Administration that you want your attorney to explain.
  • You receive any contact from the Social Security Administration.
  • You receive a Notice of Hearing before you’ve heard from your attorney about a hearing date.
  • You receive a medical form from the judge to give to your doctor.

Also, if you have any questions about your case, you should contact your Ocala disability attorney. For a free evaluation of your claim, please fill out the form on this page, or call CJ Henry at (352) 304-5300.
